I am Elaine.

This is my diary, an ever-changing auto-biography, a blog.

I write about changing the world, changing the web, and changing myself:
feminism, veganism, atheism, egoism.

Greg Gutfeld, Shithead

Greg Gutfeld of FOX News said:

“With the exception of Pam Anderson — who, by the by, is not so much aging as she is rusting — most animal rights activists aren’t hot… or particularly social. Fact is, their connection to animals is usually based on their alienation from humans. [...] And if you disagree with [animal rights], then you sir are worse than Hitler.”

And in the video, he called women who stand up for their ethical and political beliefs “bimbos.”

FUCK YOU, GREG, and your sexist, anti-vegan shitheadiness.

News flash: Women are more than “bimbos.” Yes, even if they’re wearing very little clothing, that doesn’t give you the right to call them names.

And chickens are more than dinner. As I said in my recent video, It’s an analogy, not an equation. I don’t want to give animals the right to vote. There are lots of things that humans deserve and require that I wouldn’t give to animals, but animals deserve the basic right to be left alone.

Texas

December 26, 2008 | 4 Comments

Ed thinks it’s funny that I’m afraid of Texas. He was born in Texas.

But it didn’t take much. First, I learned that they banned vibrators (no longer, but for a while it was seriously illegal to buy or sell vibrators in Texas). Then I saw Thelma & Louise. Then I learned that Texas kills more people than any other state. Then, Bush came from Texas. Then, I had to go there to pick up my nephew and some idiot in the airport scared me when he shouted at “the liberals” on TV (CNN). And now this: Texas Town Makes Shooting Dogs Legal.

This is why meat-eaters are evil:

“Scandinavian restaurant Northern Lights in Brighton has Santa’s best friend on the menu at £8.90 a dish.”

“Denise Friend of Brighton Animal Action said: ‘What sort of person would eat reindeer, especially at this time of year?’”

(Pssst: I blogged this at Vegan Soapbox, too.)

Attractive?

December 23, 2008 | 8 Comments

From Fox News:

“I’m sure that if any of us went to an actual PETA meeting, we would not find anybody remotely attractive. They are a bunch of lonely people.”

FUCK YOU, Fox News!

That comes from two sides of my personality: my vegan (PETA-friendly) side as well as my feminist (women are more than looks) side.

Open Letter to Giorgio Armani

December 22, 2008 | 3 Comments

Dear Giorgio Armani,

I am saddened to learn that you’ve broken your promise not to use rabbit fur in your clothing line. Your excuse for using fur is absurd. You’ve claimed that rabbit fur is merely “the by-product of an animal that is a staple source of food.” (source) That claim is patently false. YOU’RE LYING.

a) Rabbit flesh is NOT a staple food source for anyone, except maybe foxes and other carnivorous animals who hunt wild rabbits. Study upon study has show that the average Chinese person eats far fewer animal products than the average American person. The average Chinese person’s staple food is more often rice and other grains, NOT rabbit. Rabbit isn’t even listed as one of the main agricultural products in the CIA factbook.

b) Farmed rabbits endure horrific cruelty.

c) Fur is never merely a by-product. By buying rabbit fur, you financially support the needless torture and slaughter of rabbits. The rabbit farming industry wouldn’t be nearly as profitable as it is if you chose to use faux fur or no fur in your clothing line.

STOP USING FUR!

Sincerely,
Elaine Vigneault
