HSUS Endorses Obama
September 23, 2008
The Humane Society of the United States says,
“While we’ve endorsed hundreds of congressional candidates for election, both Democrats and Republicans, we’ve never before endorsed a presidential candidate. We have members on the left, in the center, and on the right, and we knew it could be controversial to choose either party’s candidate for the top office in the nation. But in an era of sweeping presidential power, we must weigh in on this most important political race in the country. Standing on the sidelines is no longer an option for us. ” [...]
“the HSLF board of directors — which is comprised of both Democrats and Republicans — has voted unanimously to endorse Barack Obama for President. The Obama-Biden ticket is the better choice on animal protection, and we urge all voters who care about the humane treatment of animals, no matter what their party affiliation, to vote for them.”
(By the way, doesn’t the dog look a bit like Floyd?)

Got something to say?

That’s the first thing I thought, but Floyd is way cuter.
Endorsing Obama-Biden is a no-brainer for organizations devoted to animal well-being from any perspective. Not possible to endorse a ticket featuring Ms. Mooseburger, WolfHuntress of the Skies. I read that McCain has been given a 50-50 chance of living through the next few years (by whom and on what basis I know not). But the very thought of Ms. Mooseburger in the White House is beyond chilling.
I am wondering if that dog is Jana Kohl’s dog, Baby.
Let me preface this by saying that I loathe, loathe, loathe McCain and Palin (McCain for pandering to the right, Palin for her murderous ways), but…
Obama voted for FISA, while the HSUS teamed up with the FBI to put a bounty on the heads of so-called “eco-terrorists.”
Call me cynical, disaffected, grumpy, idealistic, wev, but… *shrug*.

Yeah, but Obama has gone on record in semi-opposition to the AETA. No Compromise issue #27 has a couple quotes from Obama including this one:

I guess that’s better than most of his colleagues (save for Kucinich of course).
Let’s just hope the talk translates into action. Based on the Dems’ repeated capitulation to dubya, I’m not feeling very optimistic…but dog do I hope I’m proven wrong.
